SOS Children’s Villages has commissioned several infrastructural facilities across eight Lagos State primary schools valued at N50 million.
At the commissioning in Isolo Local Government Area, the National Director, Eghosa Erhumwunse said they invested over N50m on renovating and upgrading the eight schools which will transform the experience of 4,757 in the schools.
He said the beneficiary schools include, Ilasamaja; Kusoru; St. Paul; Akinbaye; and Home Economic Centre, Akinbaye. The rest are, Farombi, Ajao Estate, Estate Primary School and Local Government Primary School, all in Isolo LGA.
They got renovated classrooms, chairs and tables, boreholes, repairs of roofs and ceilings, 2.5kva power generators, among others.
He said, “We will all agree with the fact that there has been insufficient allocation to education in Nigeria, relative to the high number of children who are out of school and in need of formal education.
“Our gesture realizes that if we wish to make any meaningful long-term efforts to assure a better future for the increasing number of children in Nigeria, then we must begin from now to ensure that children get enrolled into schools, provide the requisite infrastructure and amenities to make them stay in school,” Erhumwunse noted.
An official of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs Ajimoti Foluso Kehinde appreciated the gesture while promising that the board will ensure that facilities provided and those renovated by the SOS Children’s Villages are maintained and prevented from vandalism.
