As part of plans to restore livelihood in oil devastated Ogoni communities, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP, has said it would build cassava processing plants in the area.

This was disclosed, weekend, in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State during the graduation ceremony of over 15 youths who have gone through the pilot phase of the three-months cassava processing livelihood training in fabrication and welding of cassava processing machines, organised by HYPREP in partnership with Stakeholders Democracy Network, SDN, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA.

Speaking, the Head, Project Coordination of HYPREP, Dr. Marvin Dekil, stated that the training was in line with one of the mandates handed to the HYPREP to restore livelihood in the area, adding that youths would be given better lives.

Dekil, who was represented by the Grace Kanem, the Director of Legal Services, HYPREP, said: “HYPREP will ensure that the skills acquired will be put into good use as cassava processing center will be set up to generate income and also create economic hub for the community.”
